An Italian and his Country, when abroad. SHORT INTRODUCTION

Heard at a Milan’s radio: “Last summer I was in Formentera. Too many Italians”. An entire book could be written of how we behave when we met compatriots abroad. Some other Peoples stick together and form large colonies in far countries. I visited English towns transplanted in Crete and Spain, German hamlets on Turkey shores. Italians are different. Do you believe we love our community and identity? Not when we’re tourist abroad. In such moments we try to separate from our citizenship, hiding our passport and blending in with other people.
